General (7.1.1–7.1.15)

7.1.1 Applies to residential, public, administrative and utility buildings.

7.1.14 Normal lighting mandatory; emergency/escape lighting per building codes.

Intakes and metering (7.1.16–7.1.27)

7.1.22 Intake device (VU/VRU) with protection and control apparatus at the building entry.

7.1.26 Every intake: overcurrent protection + switching device.

7.1.28 Group boards outside flats (stairwells) or in flat hallways when suitable.

Boards (7.1.28–7.1.35)

7.1.31 Risers in non-combustible shafts; protective devices per group in flat boards.

7.1.33 Flat board: intake protection, meter, group protection.

Wiring (7.1.36–7.1.46)

7.1.36 Copper only: ≥ 1.5 mm² lighting, ≥ 2.5 mm² sockets; aluminium not allowed in new residential wiring.

7.1.44 Socket groups 2.5 mm² — breaker ≤ 16 A.

Lighting (7.1.47–7.1.66)

7.1.50 Switches at 0.8–1.7 m by the door handle.

7.1.59 Bathroom luminaires IP44+ in zones 1–2.

Sockets (7.1.67–7.1.78)

7.1.68 All sockets in living rooms/kitchens: earthing contact to PE.

7.1.71 Socket height 0.3–0.9 m by convenience.

7.1.72 Kitchen: ≥ 4 sockets (excluding the hob).

RCDs (7.1.79–7.1.86)

7.1.79 Socket circuits: 30 mA RCD.

7.1.81 Bathrooms/showers: 10 mA RCD.

7.1.84 Fire protection at the intake: 100–300 mA selective RCD.

Flat boards (7.1.87–7.1.92)

7.1.88 Separate PE and N busbars, labeled.

Practical takeaways

Chapter 7.1 is the electrician's "bible": grounded sockets (7.1.68), 30 mA RCDs (7.1.79), 10 mA in bathrooms (7.1.81), fire RCD 100–300 mA (7.1.84), copper 1.5/2.5 mm² (7.1.36).
